All Change

The third module of the art and business of surface pattern design has come to an end. The three modules have flown by and I still have much to digest. It has been a fantastic inspiration and a real motivating force. It has made me realise a few things
  1. I'm not too bad at this designing stuff. Infact I'm very pleased with what I've been creating
  2. I'm happiest and most productive when I use my imagination
  3. I'm looking at the world with more interest
  4. There is real purpose and value in so called decorative arts- something I think I have always questioned before.
  5. I should trust my instincts more
This, and all the practical knowledge I have gained from the course have made me look at life anew. So I've been a bit quiet recently. There has been a lot going on and a lot to think about. And I'm a slow thinker. The conclusion I've come to is that it is time to take a risk and get stuck in. I'm going to make surface pattern design and illustration a full time concern. So a big thanks to Rachael, Beth, and my fellow students for their support and guidance.

Yesterday I gave my notice in a job I have been doing full time for the past 8 years. It's a little bit scary to let go, but mainly very exciting to be free to pursue a new career. And guess what? It has already started to clear my creative block. Here's some sketching from today to get me into the swing of things.
