Hello, welcome to my kiosk! Have you just arrived from Virginia Njeri Kamau's blog? I'm glad you made it over from Sweden! Njeri surface pattern studio has some stunning designs, I hope you took some time to look around.
If you have just joined us today is bloghop day at the kiosk. I am taking part in the Let's Fly new year celebration of 2013. Over 50 designers are taking part to show off a specially designed collection, using pantone's colour of the year, just for you to enjoy. Have you guessed what the colour is by now? Follow the link at the bottom of this post to take you to the next designer, or start at the very beginning by clicking on the bloghop button on the right.
I like to work with collage, so that is where I started with this collection. Thinking about soaring on and up I chose to work with motifs inspired by birds in flight. I wanted the imagery to have direction and zest, so went for strong and cheering colours (including the all important emerald green of course). I started thinking about Marion Dorn's great patterns- with a mess of papers, ink and glue.
And this is where I ended up. I hadn't been looking at Matisse, but I do think they are reminiscent of his cut outs. What do you think? Leave me a comment below.
I've called the collection Soaring. My goal as a designer this year is to not just maintain altitude, but really soar! I aim to start my own line of products and find an agent. Any ideas on what you would like to see me make are welcome. Just leave a comment. So all I have to say is- chocs away (sorry, couldn't help it).
I hope you enjoyed my soaring collection. It was fun to make. Why not bookmark this page and come back later for a nose around? You can check out my designs here. If you want to find out more about me, or are interested in working with me do get in touch. You can email me at hello@esthercoxskiosk.com or tweet me.
But for now I urge you to go on and check out the collection that Anna Dent studio has created. Anna is based in London, so not so far to travel! She has just started selling some great contemporary homewares. I think you are in for a treat.
Many thanks to Believe studio for curating this event.
